Drug testing of employees about to begin...
August 4, 2006

Tribal Council already tested; other offices will follow in coming weeks.

CRIT is continuing its fight against drug use on the reservation by implementing a mandatory drug testing policy for all Tribal employees.

The program began with the Tribal Council taking the tests in June and July, and is part of the Tribal Council’s zero-tolerance policy. All Tribal Council members passed.

The goal is to expand the drug testing program to all Tribal employees in the course of the coming weeks.

“We want to send a strong message to the community that drug use is not tolerated — by anyone — on the CRIT reservation,” said Tribal Chairman Daniel Eddy, Jr.

CRIT is also continuing its work to fight drug use — especially the use of methamphetamines — through its CRIT Meth Coalition.

The coalition is now moving into the educational phase of its work, including scheduling a series of public events to increase awareness about the dangers of drug use.

“We want to continue to focus on community education and make sure people know the dangers of drug use,” said Lola Wood, CRIT Deputy Attorney General.

The programs will be held on the following dates from 6 to 7 p.m. in the Tribal Council chambers:

  • August 8 — A video called “What’s Wrong With Methamphetamines.”
  • September 13 — Meth video “G”.
  • October 11 — The Montana Project.
  • November 8 — Gateway drugs.
  • December 13 — Panel discussion.
The times on the last four meetings will be announced at a later date, but those interested in the presentations may call Wood at (928) 669-1271 for additional details.

The CRIT Methamphetamine Coalition is made up of representatives from a number of different Tribal agencies as well as interested members of the community.
